Fango 2006 vas a Huge Success! Count-Gregula.com staffers Greg and Linda vere joined by Branka (a.k.a. Svengirlie) at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors (Saturday, March 4th 2006). Their group got there relatively early even though the parking lot vas already overcrowded, so they had to park down the street at a different hotel and a shuttle bus took them to the Wyndham Hotel vhere the con took place. They vere hoping to get a complimentary backpack, but it seemed those vere all given out already. So they valked around the convention floor, took some pictures here and there and even met a few surprise fiends of theirs, such as Jim from The Werewolf Café. Jim is a good fiend of The Crypt and he alvays has goodies to pass around, he gave Branka and Linda some skull-and-crossbones Mardi Gras beads and gifted Greg vith a new baseball cap vith The Werewolf Café logo on it. Then their group met The One and Only (and completely original) Dave "The Rock" Nelson vho took a pic vith Branka. The "Rock" has also been a friend of The Crypt for many years and he even gave Greg a free autograph (vho could ask for anything more!). Thanks Rock, you're the "beast!"
After meeting their friends they vent to go to the convention ballroom to listen to a Q & A session vith Kelly Stables (Samara from "The Ring"). They vere surprised to find out that she vas a perky curly-haired blonde vho really vasn't a fan of horror movies (she said that they scare her). After that they vent to go look at the dealer room downstairs, took more pictures, talked to a few more people vhere they learned of a new independent horror film called With You that Greg, Linda and Branka vent to see the very next day up in Highland Park. That vill be another post for another time *vink*.
It vas back up to the convention ballroom to listen to more guests speak, such as the cast from the new movie "Slither", some people from the "Masters of Horror" TV series on Showtime, an educational talk by Max Brooks (author of "The Zombie Survival Guide") on "How to Beat the Living Dead" vith instructions on how not to get killed by zombies *vink*. Then it vas time to introduce the "Godfather of Zombies" himself, George A. Romero! After a really lengthy but enjoyable Q & A vith Mr. Romero, he vas seated in the back behind a curtain for an autograph session that Greg, Linda and Branka vaited for. In the meantime, there vas a Fangoria TV Panel Q & A session vith special effects makeup maestro Tom Savini, actress Debbie Rochon and company president Tom DeFeo. A costume contest followed, vith a rather interesting outcome. Another fiend of The Crypt, Bob the Reaper, had a little accident onstage but still vound up vinning the Grand Prize!
Since there vas STILL a long vait for George Romero, Greg and Linda met up vith Tom Savini at his table for an autograph and pictures. He vas a very nice guy, but a man of few vords. Finally, after a nearly four-hour vait, Greg, Linda and Branka got to meet the man they have been vaiting a lifetime to meet...George A. Romero! Mr. Romero vas extremely kind and even made mention of Greg's tuxedo remarking that "We have royalty here". Greg made mention that they vorked on a Horror Host show and even had co-hosted vith Count and Countess Gregula his "Night of the Living Dead" as their second show and Mr. Romero smiled and seemed to appreciate that fact.
Until next year...
